Prerequisites
Windows
The Judo Graphics system is supported on Windows 10 Pro 22H2 and Windows 11 Pro. Windows 11 Pro is recommended for new installations. If Windows 10 Pro is used, ensure that the computer is covered by your organization’s approved security-maintenance policy.
NDI Support
For NDI workflows, download and install NDI Tools from the official NDI website. Install NDI Studio Monitor because it is used during post-installation verification. This step is not required for an SDI-only workflow.
Core Software Installation
Pre-installation checkpoint: Check if an existing C:\CG folder is present. Close running processes, document the installed version, and follow an approved backup/upgrade/clean-install path before extraction to avoid mixing files.
The Judo Graphics software package is provided in three essential parts: the CasparCG Server, the CGplay software, and the Templates. Follow the instructions below to install each component based on your event type:
- CasparCG Server (universal): Download and extract the CasparCG software package into the folder C:\CG. Note: If a different folder name is used, configuration settings in casparcg.config must be manually adjusted. Add folder C:\CG\media\ for your images and movies.
- National Events:
- CGplay: The CGplay software package will be provided to you upon purchase via a designated communication channel (e.g., email or direct link). Extract this package into the folder C:\CG\SW.
- Templates: The purchased graphics templates will be provided in the same manner. Extract this package into the folder C:\CG\templates.
- IJF Events:
- CGplay: Download and extract the CGplay software package into the folder C:\CG. After extraction, verify that cgplay.exe is located at C:\CG\SW\cgplay.exe.
- Templates: Download and extract the graphics templates (IJF, EJU, AJU, OJT, PJC, JUA) into the folder C:\CG. After extraction, verify that the .ft files are located in C:\CG\templates.
Product Registration (License Activation)
Before you can receive live data or render graphics, you must activate the CGplay software using an official product code. Please ensure you have obtained your valid license key. For registration you need an internet connection.
- Activation Steps:
- Open the CGplay.exe application in SW folder. Look at the top left corner of the interface. If your software is not activated, the indicator box will display a gray UNREGISTERED warning, and the bottom status bar will read "License is not registered."
- Click on the gray UNREGISTERED indicator box.
- A Product registration window will appear.
- Type or paste your provided license key into the "Enter product code from backend" text field.
- Click OK.
- Once the system authenticates your code, the gray warning will disappear and be replaced by the standard status indicators.
Configuring CasparCG Server Channels (casparcg.config)
After extracting the core software, you must define the output video channels for your rendering engine. The number of output channels you need depends on how many physical mats (tatamis) you are managing.
- The Default Setup: The casparcg.config file is pre-configured to output five (5) individual channels (Mat 1 through Mat 5) using the network-based NDI protocol. If you are running a single-mat test or using a low-capacity system, you should manually remove the unused channel blocks from the configuration file so it does not initialize all 5 channels unnecessarily.
- Adding Additional Channels (6+ Mats): If you want to reconfigure the number of channels to support a larger event, you must manually edit the configuration file to add more video outputs.
- Navigate to your server folder and open the casparcg.config file using a standard text editor (like Notepad).
- Locate the main <channels> section.
- To add a new mat, simply highlight and copy an existing complete <channel> block and paste it immediately below the last one.
- Update the <name> tag inside your copied block to reflect the new mat number (for example, change Mat5 to Mat6) and save changes.
Example of a single NDI channel block:
<channel>
<video-mode>1080p5000</video-mode>
<consumers>
<ndi>
<name>Mat6</name>
<allow-fields>true</allow-fields>
</ndi>
</consumers>
</channel>
Note: The casparcg.config file is highly customizable. Each individual channel block can be configured to have one or more consumers (for instance, an NDI stream, an SDI connection, or a local display). Please refer to the following link for more information: CasparCG configuration. Flash Player
The system requires specific Flash components to be manually placed and registered within Windows system folders. Use only the installer supplied with Judo Graphics software package and never download Flash Player from a third-party website. Install it only on the dedicated Graphics PC.
Navigate to C:\CG\flashinstall and run install_flash_player.exe. Ensure "Never check for updates" is selected.
- Copy System Files: Copy and overwrite all files from C:\CG\flashinstall\wow
to: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\
- Copy and overwrite all files from C:\CG\flashinstall (excluding the \wow folder)
to: C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\
- Verify File Copy: Explicitly check that the file C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\Flash.ocx actually exists before proceeding. If the file is missing, manually copy Flash.ocx from C:\CG\flashinstall into the System32\Macromed\Flash\ directory and accept any administrator prompts.
- Registration: Open the Command Prompt (CMD) as an Administrator
and execute: cd C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\ followed by regsvr32 Flash.ocx.
Multi-Mat Configuration
To manage multiple competition mats from a single workstation:
- Create a unique desktop shortcut to CGplay for each mat (cgplay 1, cgplay 2, cgplay 3).
- Right-click each shortcut, select Properties, and in the Target field, append the mat number (cgplay.exe 1 for Mat 1, cgplay.exe 2 for Mat 2, etc).
Configuration of data.ini
The main configuration file for CGplay is located at
C:\CG\SW\data.ini. Open this file to check and, if needed, configure the specific requirements for your event tier (for more information see
National events or
IJF events).
Post-Installation Verification
- Network & Software Startup:
- Test the computer connection: Open the Command Prompt (CMD) and run a simple "Ping" test to guarantee the JudoNet PC and the Graphics PC are communicating (see FAQ in Network Setup chapter).
- Open the graphics program: Launch the CGplay application and confirm that the main controller interface opens without any errors.
- Start the rendering engine: Launch the CasparCG server program (casparcg.exe located in the server folder). Ensure the black console window stays open in the background and verify that the startup sequence completes without any error messages. Note: You can safely ignore benign messages such as 'TBBmalloc: skip allocation functions replacement...' or Chromium 'ERROR: Lost UI shared context'.
- Enable the JudoNet UDP broadcast (see Network setup).
- Look for the green lights: Inside the CGplay software, look at your indicators. Both the ONLINE and UDP ENABLED lights must be glowing green.
- Graphics Output Testing:
- Trigger a test graphic: You can test without receiving UDP data. Enter TEST GRAPHIC - MAT 1 in a SINGLE LINE field under Manual CG tab (National Events) or the LOWER 3rd tab (IJF Events), and click the corresponding ONAIR button. Keep the graphic on air while testing.
- NDI:
- On the Graphics PC: Open NDI Studio Monitor, right-click inside its window, select the name of your Graphics PC and then select the required mat. Confirm that the custom test graphic is visible.
- On the Video Mixer PC: Open vMix or OBS, add or select the same NDI mat source and confirm that the same custom test graphic is received correctly.
- Finish the test: Click CLEAR ALL in CGplay and confirm that the test graphic disappears.
- SDI: The supplied casparcg.config is preconfigured for NDI output. If SDI output is required, contact JudoManager Support for the correct configuration.
- Live Data & Graphics Quality:
- Send a test score: Have the JudoNet PC send sample contest data. Verify that the test scores and names successfully appear on your screen.
- Check the country flags: Confirm that the correct national flags appear next to the test competitors' names.
- Inspect the graphic quality: Look closely at the on-screen scoreboards. Ensure the graphics are clean and clear, with no weird lines, glitches, or visual artifacts around the edges.
Uninstallation Procedures
If it becomes necessary to completely remove the Judo Graphics from a workstation, standard Windows uninstallation tools may not apply. Follow these manual steps:
- Before removal: Back up the entire C:\CG folder if you may need to preserve templates, media files, logs, licence information, or configuration files.
- Close All Applications: Ensure both the CGplay controller interface and the CasparCG Server console window are completely closed. Check the Windows Task Manager to confirm no background CasparCG processes remain active.
- Flash Cleanup: Open Command Prompt as Administrator and unregister the component using its full path: regsvr32 /u C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\Flash.ocx
Remove only the Flash files installed by the Judo Graphics package. Do not delete unrelated files from the Windows system folders. If you are unsure which files belong to the package, contact JudoManager Support. - Remove the Core Directory: Navigate to your C:\ drive and permanently delete the entire C:\CG\ folder. This effectively removes the rendering engine, templates, media assets, and all configuration files.
- Clean Shortcuts: Delete any custom shortcuts created on the desktop or within the Start Menu.
- Remove NDI Tools (Optional): If NDI Tools were installed exclusively for Judo Graphics and are no longer required by other streaming software, navigate to Windows Settings > Apps > Installed Apps, locate "NDI Tools", and click Uninstall.
FAQ
- Why do I still see the gray "UNREGISTERED" warning after entering my license key? Double-check that you entered the key exactly as provided without any extra spaces. Ensure your computer has an active internet connection when you click "OK". If the key is valid and you are online, try completely restarting the CGplay application.
- Why does the system require me to install Flash Player? Because your judo templates are built using Flash, CasparCG needs the Flash Player (specifically the registered .ocx Windows component) installed on the computer to render them. If you skip this installation, your graphics will either not load at all or show up as blank boxes on your stream.
- What if Flash registration (regsvr32) fails? Verify the file exists in the exact System32 path. Ensure you opened the Command Prompt as an Administrator and retry. If the module exists but dependent DLLs still fail to resolve, stop the installation and escalate the issue to support.
- Can a single powerful PC run multiple mats simultaneously? Yes. CasparCG can output multiple NDI channels simultaneously. However, the actual number of mats depends on the available CPU performance, GPU processing power, VRAM, output resolution, frame rate, graphic templates, and other applications running on the computer. A capable computer with a dedicated GPU may support five or more mats, but this is not guaranteed. Perform a full-load test with all required mats before the competition.
